I'm not sure what the world record is for world's fastest baby delivery, but my beautiful wife made it happen in 2 hours and 10 minutes. I helped the doctor through the entire process and wow, I've never been turned into a blubbering mess like that before. Baby and Momma are doing great. I can't tell you how happy we are right now.

Needless to say, you may not see many updates here for a while.

Doing some research

I've decided to call my robot the BAR-1, or Bad Ass Robot - 1.

Since I'm not doing this for a client I'm quite happy to let the idea evolve and develop a life of it's own. Here's some visual reference that I'll probably use to incorporate various bitz. That sketch is just the beginning, now for some details!

New Art - Big Badarse Robot

I'm in serioius need of a creative outlet, so I started drawing again. This time I took my sweet time and worked the process, and i have to say it's pretty medatative.

Next is to create this guy as a 3D character, and rig him to animate. It's a pretty complex character that poses a variety of technical challenges, like finding a way to do the green flames, and coming up with believable mechanical bits that work together.

This started as a rough greyscale sketch in photoshop which i printed out and drew over in pencil. I did this because I'm much more comfortable working in pencil than the pen tablet. Then came the process of breaking it all down into layers in photoshop for painting. I'm still learning how to do quality renderings in photoshop, but I'm pretty happy with the brassy look. I'll probably go over it again to add more of a sense of lighting.

I'm not really satisfied with how the right arm is looking, but I'm going to do a lot of detailing in 3D, so it'll definitely flesh out.

Stay tuned for in-progress shots of this bad boy being built in Maya.
